Ms. Mopati Rammekwa was been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of the Gambling Authority effective 2nd February 2024.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, Mopati is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the Gambling Authority's operations relating to licensing, monitoring, investigations and compliance. Mopati is also responsible for identifying investment opportunities to grow the gambling industry in Botswana as well as leading gambling legislation and policy reviews.

Mopati is a seasoned professional with over 20 years in the public service and the regulatory environment. She started her career at the Department of Tourism, where she rose through the ranks until she assumed the role of Head of Licensing and Inspection Division.

Over the years, she demonstrated exceptional skills in licensing, inspection, grading and ensuring strict adherence to relevant legislation in regulating tourism activities. Notably, she served as the Secretary to both the Tourism Industry Licensing Board and the Tourism Industry Training Fund Management Committees.

Transitioning to the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2010, Mopati assumed the role of Secretary to the Casino Control Board. Her responsibilities expanded to encompass internal trade regulation, including the implementation of Trade and Liquor Acts. She played a crucial role during the establishment of the Gambling Authority, where she was later appointed Licensing Services Manager in 2016.

Mopati Rammekwa holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (Management) from the University of Botswana as well as Principles of Sports Wagering (Policy and Operations) and Pre-Licensing Financial & Background Investigations all from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the USA.
